Page to Stage

How do we take the words from your mind and maximize their impact on an audience? In this interactive session, you will have the opportunity to master the fine art of influencing your audience with your voice and your physicality. In just a few short minutes, you will demistify and master the techniques that professional presenters and actors have been using to inspire their audiences.

You will learn:

  • Warm up techniques for your voice
  • Warm up exercises for your physicality
  • The science of hand gestures and controlled body movement
  • Increasing the resonance of your voice
  • Dozens of other skills that you can utilize in your very next speech

Fursey Gotuaco

Currently a Principal at Hangzhou International School, Fursey Gotuaco is a 3 time District Champion winning in District 25 and 85, in both Table Topics and International Speech Contest. In 2020 he reached the Semifinals of The World Championship of Public Speaking and was a Finalist in 2022. In August of 2020, he won District 25’s Toastmaster of the Year. Fursey is an Executive Speech Coach who has been teaching theatre and speech for over 30 years. As a toastmaster for over 5 years, he has been sharing his insights of successful speaking around the globe including China, Mauritius, Greece, Australia, Canada, and his home state of Texas. And now, he’s ready to help you move forward on your personal speaking journey. Are you ready?

The leader role is challenging. This session supports the Toastmasters mission to empower individuals to become effective communicators and leaders with the emphasis on leaders.

In this session we will:

  • Outline leader expectations

  • Discuss leadership behaviors

Russell Drake, DTM, PDD, PID

Mr. Drake attended Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications and Kentucky State University, Frankfort, Kentucky where he earned a Masters of Public Affairs with a concentration in Personnel Administration. He has attended training at the prestigious Center for Creative Leadership, Greensboro, North Carolina. He has served on Toastmasters International Board of Directors and is a Past Select Distinguished District 13 Governor. With more than 40 years of experience in sales management, human resources and leadership development, Drake has developed a unique and well-rounded approach. He brings a high energy, high quality and engaging training experience.

Who wants to be funny?

Humor is a great way to connect with others and to make your speeches memorable.  Finding the funny is easier than you think, you just need to know where to look.  In this entertaining and interactive session, we will:

  • Introduce the comedy equation
  • Examine how to find the humor in your personal stories
  • Differentiate between telling jokes and developing a funny speech
  • Present resources to help sharpen your comedy chops

Jim Teague

Jim is an award-winning speaker and trainer. He retired from the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown in 2023 after a successful career as a department head and professor of finance. In addition, Jim has extensive experience working with his wife Michelle providing business training in leadership, effective communication skills, and overcoming obstacles. Jim is also a member of the District 13 humor club, Jest Speaking.
